Sue Wong presented her highly anticipated Spring 2013 collection during the Fifth Annual 3D Film and Music Festival in Los Angeles on September 21, 2012. In relation to the festival, Wong’s entire runway program was filmed in 3D as part of Othila Media’s documentary “Fashion and Culture in Los Angeles,” which chronicles the city’s pivotal creative contributions to fashion, art, and music. Without question, Sue Wong’s name is synonomous with high fashion and elegance.
Not an inch of space left, an eclectic group of celebrities, tastemakers, and media filled the room to witness the Spring Transcendent Collection. Fine hand work was evident in beautiful beaded gowns, combines with floral inspired embroideries, appliques, asymmetrical hemlines, and feathered trims. Rich yet anti-decadent. Every scene unveiled Wong’s understanding and respect for Transcendentalism. Even quoting the likes of Henry David Thoreau: “Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand.”
Designer Sue Wong further points out, “When Mr. Thoreau recounted his experience of living on Walden Pond, he wrote, ‘the true harvest of my daily life is somewhat intangible and indescribable as tints of morning or evening. It is a little star dust caught, a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.’ In this collection, I tried to capture that fleeting beauty that exists in the very fibers of both fashion and nature.” She added, “Introducing it at the 3DFF is a wonderful opportunity to engage fashion in an exciting new way while celebrating the kind of Hollywood glamour that has always been so integral to my designs.”
Plenty of attention to detail paid, not only in the near perfect fit and execution of the collection, but also the ambiance Wong created for attendees. Sound, light, texture, all gave life to the natural and spiritual proponents that were the basis of her inspiration; lending a fitting close as Wong received a standing ovation for a more than aplaudable way to lead an approaching Fashion Week in Los Angeles. Special guests included Bai Ling, Sam Horrigan, Marika Tsircou, Kearran Giovanni, Jadin Gould, Jen Lilley, and Eva Marcille among many others. List of event sponsors included RealD, 3net, LG Electronics, the Dream Factory as well as Bacardi and Red Bull.
