The Clift Royal Sonesta Hotel is a San Francisco gem with early 20th-century decor, cozy rooms, and delicious food. The accommodations made our stay in San Francisco, both relaxing and memorable.
Interior
Upon entering the hotel, the exquisite interior design by Phillippe Starck is visually stimulating. The mood of the lobby is dark and mysterious but not overbearing. This entire hotel has a romantic atmosphere throughout.
One of the highlights was seeing the enormous chic oversized armchair (we saw it on Instagram) and guests are allowed to take pictures on top of the chair.
Dining
The Redwood compliments the hotel fully and an excellent backdrop to have food & drinks with friends. Make sure you pay attention to the moving portraits. It’s sure to start a conversation.
Clift Burger Deviled Eggs Dry-Rub Chicken Wings
The menu offered small and large plates options and affordable price points. Our favorite dishes were Dry-Rub Chicken Wings, Deviled Eggs (GF), Clift Burger with Kennebec Fries, Napa Green Salad (GF), and the Seared Sustainable Salmon with Tangy Citrus Sauce. For dessert, we had the Market Fruit Plate. Everything was delicious and made-to-order.
Try the Watermelon Plata Punch. It’s a refreshing beverage full of flavor. We had to opportunity to meet a guest who stated The Clift is his go-to hotel when he comes to San Francisco and who gifted us a bottle of wine. How nice was that?

Happy Hour: 5:00 PM – 7 PM.

Room
When we got off the elevator, our first impression was WOW! We loved the lavender walls throughout the halls and the chairs in our corner suite. The oranged desk was a subtle pop of orange and brought everything together. This hotel is truly something out of a vintage movie.
The staff at this hotel is impressive. Everyone was kind and greeted us with a smile during our entire stay. We will be back for sure! To find shopping & entertainment, make an immediate right once you leave the hotel and only two short blocks away from the heart of Union Square.
