You are one busy lady. What have you been up to?

Most recently I have been writing for my upcoming project on Mack Avenue Records, that is going to release next year. In addition, I have been in touring with my quartet “Angelic Warrior” worldwide as well as, as a side-woman. Today I am heading to South America (French Giana) to play with Terri Lyne Carrington’s “Mosaic 2.” And in the weeks to come I will be performing Tia Fuller’s “A Fuller Sound” in Atlanta, Canada with Tia Fuller Trio, touring with bassist Rufus Reed, and serving as a guest artist at the University of Colorado at Boulder. All while maiming a full-Time professorship teaching at Berklee School Music in Boston. Very busy, yet extremely thankful.

Why is it important to perform during Homecoming Weekend in Atlanta?

It’s important to perform at Homecoming weekend because it is an opportunity for me to give back and reconnect with the community that served as the “Fertile Ground” for my vision that I have been blessed to see come to fruition, in my life. It is my way of not only celebration my journey but to celebrate all of my brothers and sisters that I went to school with. We all were excited and so driven, and as I reflect many of us have superseded our goals. That is to be celebrated.

What will your fans expect to hear during your set in Atlanta?

They will hear a genre-crossing set that incorporates much of the music that has influenced me on my journey. From the beginning of my jazz roots, spanning through our favorites that we heard at the club our freshman and sophomore year, all the way to music I toured with Beyonce and Esperanza Spalding. Get ready to be inspired and uplifted.

You have a new album coming out in 2016. Can you tell us about it?

Yes. I feel that this is my best work yet in that I am playing original arrangements of standards from the artist that have influenced my voice. This project will be produced by Terri Lyne Carrington featuring some jazz legends of today. Be looking out for it the fall/ winter of 2016.

You’re invited to A Fuller Sound, a social mixer kicking off Spelman, Morehouse and Clark Homecoming, accompanied by a live genre-crossing celebration of jazz, R&B, and Hip-Hop. A Fuller Sound features Spelman alumna, Tia Fuller, and an expanded band that consists of a traditional jazz rhythm section, horn section, and background vocals.

Tia Fuller is an accomplished composer of four recorded jazz albums. And, it’s no wonder that Tia was a side-woman and featured soloist of the all-female band touring worldwide with R&B star, Beyoncé. She has recently toured with grammy-award winning Terri Lyne Carrington, as well as Esperanza Spalding and Dianne Reeves. Tia has also performed with luminaries such as: Janelle Monae, Ledisi, Pattie Labelle, Kelly Rowland, Jay-Z, Jill Scott, Ralph Peterson Septet, Rufus Reid Quintet, Geri Allen, the Nancy Wilson Jazz Orchestra, Wycliff Gordan Septet, Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra, Chaka Kahn, Nona Hendryx, Sheila E, Valerie Simpson, Dionne Warwick, Patrice Rushen, Erykah Badu and Aretha Franklin.
