Joy & Mario is a socially responsible Los Angeles-based brand with their own in-house production creating the opportunity to produce affordable and accessibility shoes to the masses. Their partnership with World Wildlife Fund welcomes more international brand recognition with plans to grow globally.
What makes Joy & Mario unique from other shoe designers?
Joy & Mario is unique because we have our own factory which allows us to, keep a close eye on the production process, create new styles quickly and maintain good relationships with overseas suppliers. We are currently renewing our licensing deal with the World Wildlife Fund and are exciting about launching an international shoe collection that meets WWF standards for environmental sustainability.
How did you get your start and when did you debut?
Our collection launched in 2013 with the idea of bringing back the classic canvas espadrille which has been around for hundreds of years and is represented in different cultures throughout the world.
We love your artist collaborations. Why are collaborations important to you?
As a brand, we are passionate about supporting local artists and the arts. We are involved in local design communities through our Artist collaborations, school projects, and our international design contest.
Your shoes are very comfortable. Is there something unique in the insoles?
Yes! We are glad you noticed. Our CEO Koko Zhang has an extensive background in athletic shoes and incorporated many of the features such as shock absorbency and breathability into our insoles.
Explain why you keep your price points affordable.
Our goal is to make socially responsible products that are available for the mass market. Factories in China have a reputation for human rights abuses and cutting corners. We feel like our product is a way to correct many of these problems while still being affordable and accessible to a majority of people.
