Automation
Thanks to modern technology, there are often multiple ways to getting the job done faster and more efficiently. This is where “efficiency” kicks in as your team will need to take advantage of automation wherever possible. You may not have time to purchase and use training software, but if you already have your team trained, then you are ready to set the wheels in motion. Consider having your managers divide responsibilities among smaller teams with experienced workers and novice team members working side by side. If any part of the project can be outsourced, do so if it is cost effective and the turn around time is fast. Your quality control team will need to be hands-on, working in-house and with vendors to ensure that the job flow meets the project’s parameters.
Finalization
You are not ready to bring this project to completion, at least not just yet. The assumption here is that there are no mistakes made or problems uncovered along the way. That’s a very poor assumption! Likely, your project will have its share of crises including raw materials costing more than anticipated, a key worker being ill or quitting, a manager unable to carry out tasks or even a natural disaster that could slow down the project.
Throughout your project’s campaign, your team has been meeting benchmarks to ensure that the job is completed as required. As those benchmarks are being met, you are evaluating the project to verify that everything is going according to plan. You will need to make adjustments on the fly and will be in constant contact with the customer to apprise them of the project’s progress. At some point you may need to renegotiate some aspect of the job especially if costs are higher than anticipated or some matter outside of your control is hampering its progress. Once you have identified the problem, offered a resolution and pursue a solution. At this point you are ready to bring the job to completion, delivering a project that was completed on time and with customer expectations met.
