16 Things Every Model Should Have in their Model Bag

Model Bag

[Updated] No Model Bag? A model bag should be something that every model has prepared and takes to each and every job.

I’m often asked, “What should I bring to a photo shoot?” Good question. I’m always impressed when a model comes to set prepared even if it’s for an editorial shoot. Unforeseen things happen and coming to a photo shoot prepared is the key to peace of mind.

A model bag is essential. As professional as you may seem, the team may forget that key item(s) that’s essential to making you pop in front of the camera and keeping a great flow.

The list below has been prepared for male and female models. You are free to print and share this with other models. Keep a copy for yourself. Enjoy!

MALE MODEL BAG

  1. Lip Balm – Keeps your lips moisturized.
  2. Directions to set – This will prevent you from arriving late. No one likes a late model. Try Google Maps.
  3. Thank You Cards (blank) – Always thank the people you work with. Get their names beforehand. Handwriting a special note gives you bonus points. Try your local drug store. They usually have a pack of 10.
  4. Portfolio/HeadshotsALWAYS have your portfolio even if you’ve already booked the job. If you don’t have a portfolio, work on getting one shot by a professional photographer.
  5. Vouchers (agency models only) – This ensures you get paid from the client.
  6. Comp Cards – Leave something with the client or crew after they’ve reviewed your portfolio.
  7. Underwear – Boxer Briefs or Low-Rise. NO BOXERS. You need something that’s form fitting next to your skin.
  8. Face Moisturizer – Oil-Free/SPF-15 sunscreen.
  9. Cell Phone Charger – It is rude to be on your cell while shooting, however, make sure your cell is charging while you work. Put on silent or turn off completely.
  10. Social Media – Do not post behind-the-scene images of the shoot/set unless you get permission from client or photographer.
  11. Foundation/Bronzer – The makeup artist may not have the foundation that fits your skin tone or complexion.
  12. Bottled Water – Keeps you hydrated.
  13. Mouth Wash/Breath Mints – Keep your breath fresh. NO GUM!
  14. Book/Tablet/MP3 Player: You may have a long downtime. This will keep you from becoming bored.
  15. Hair Products – Hair balm, spray, brush and/or comb.
  16. Eye drops – Keeps your eyes from being red.

Try finding flesh tone undergarments and a cut that fits your body type.
